Dear Family and Friends,
Thank you for your many prayers, phone messages and encouraging notes. We feel very sustained by the Lord’s grace & strength. We grieved as we drove home today with an empty cars seat, but we are encouraged by recent events.
One huge blessing was that we were able to visit Amber on our way out. We fed her and cuddled her for an hour. We are so thankful we were able to see she is healthy and say goodbye.
Another is that we are overwhelmed with thankfulness by how well our agency, as well as the state, have handled this whole situation. Even though we miss Amber tremendously and our hearts ache to have her in our home, we trust in the Lord’s timing and are still hopeful we can adopt her.
Here is the reason why: Because of the mother’s history the courts have ruled that the birthmother needs to prove that she is a fit mother before she can regain custody of Amber. According to state law, this can take up to 15 months. After 15 months, if the goals are not met, Amber is automatically put up for adoption in which case we could be the first choice.
The more encouraging and likely scenario is that the birthmother can change her mind and go back to the original adoption plan at any time. We are praying that the birthmother would moved by her original desire to not have Amber in state foster care. If this happens she could choose us again. Unfortunately, because our adoption agency is less involved now, there is no one to recommend that she choose us. This means that she has to come to the conclusion herself that the best way to get Amber out of foster care and into a home is by choosing us. So this is what we are praying, that at any moment she would have the idea to choose adoption, and then choose us. We are praying that as the mother faces the reality that Amber could be in state foster care for over a year that she would choose us instead.
Our next prayer requests is that the courts do not give up on this case and simply send the birthmother and the baby back to the birthmother’s home state. If this happened there is no way we could adopt Amber and she would remain in that state’s care indefinitely.
Please pray with us, that the Lord would work on behalf of Amber. That she would be spared a confusing life apart from a stable home and parents. We long to be this. We long to be the ones to shepherd her heart and model Christ. Please pray for the Lord’s will and that He would be pleased to perform a miracle that we do not deserve and place Amber back in our arms soon.
With Gratitude,
Weyland & Katie

Weyland and Katie,
Our hearts ache with yours and we pray earnestly for God to work in the hearts of everyone He has drawn into this circumstance. I cannot imagine the wonder of having her home and then having to surrender her to the Lord again. May He grant you peace and comfort on the hardest longest days.
Love, Christa
We are continually thinking of you and praying for you all. Much love,
